The Assisted National Selection is an academic competition focused on economics, business, and financial literacy, designed and organized by the International Economics Olympiad (IEO) for partner countries seeking representation at the IEO.
The IEO oversees all academic and technical aspects of the selection process, including task development, contestant registration, round coordination, and result processing. Meanwhile, the National Organizer in the partner country is responsible for promoting the competition, encouraging student participation, announcing outcomes, and securing additional support and sponsorship for the selected team. Through close collaboration, the IEO and the partner organization work together to successfully launch and execute the competition
The Assisted National Selection (ANS) is a streamlined and secure solution for selecting a national team to represent your country at the International Economics Olympiad (IEO). It allows you to reap all the benefits of IEO participation without the need for significant time or organizational resource investments.

The National Organizer and the IEO collaborate to determine the most suitable dates for the selection process, ensuring it aligns with the schedules of both the organizing team and the participants. Once the dates are finalized, the IEO sets up the registration page for the competition, while the National Organizer initiates a promotional campaign. This includes creating dedicated webpages or social media channels for the event and distributing email campaigns to local schools and partner institutions to attract participants.
After the registration period closes, the competition begins. Each Assisted National Selection consists of two rounds:
Round 1: Economics and Financial Literacy
This round consists of a multiple-choice test designed to assess participants' general knowledge in the fields of economics and financial literacy. It is tailored for a broad audience and serves as a qualifying stage to identify motivated individuals with a solid grasp of foundational concepts. The round is conducted asynchronously and does not require invigilation.
In accordance with the National Organizer’s decision, no fewer than 20 and no more than 50 top-performing contestants will advance to the next stage of the competition.
Round 2: Economics and Financial Literacy
This round features a comprehensive test combining multiple-choice and open-ended questions, focusing on more advanced and nuanced topics within economics and financial literacy. The round is conducted under strict supervision, utilizing a professional proctoring service or live on-site proctors to ensure integrity. All submissions are evaluated by a panel of expert judges.
The IEO team calculates the results and communicates them to the National Organizer. The top five contestants earn the honor of representing their country at the IEO, while an additional five students are selected as reserves in case any members of the main team are unable to participate in the international finals. All finalists are also invited to take part in the OpenTrack competition.
In the Extended and Pro plans, the IEO offers a training Business Case complete with detailed evaluation criteria, empowering the National Organizer to equip finalists with essential case-solving skills. This resource is designed to enhance participants' ability to analyze, strategize, and present solutions effectively.
